What to wear to a photoshoot
I aim at creating timeless pictures for you and your family and while I do understand that you might occasionally wear
something unusual and specific to your photoshoot, most of the time I'd ask you not to. We don't want cloths to be
the first thing you notice, when you look at your photographs. After all, it's about people, not things.
What NOT to wear
* cloths with logos, brands, printed images (cartoons, public figures), printed words
* busy patterns (stripes, big polka dot, big/bright flowers, etc)
* bright/neon colors, high contrast colors
* anything that is too casual, untidy and too effortless
* matching looks, similar T-shorts, pajamas, etc.
* new cloths that you never tried before
You avoid logos, busy patterns and bright colors because they will drain all the attention from you.
Being dressed too casual will probably make your photos look too unpolished or even scruffy;
matching outfits is just too old-fashioned, and experiments might create an extra stress.
What to wear to a photoshoot
My main advice is to keep it simple in terms of colors, style, design, contrast and details.
* choose muted colors (earthly colors are the best)
* choose monochrome palette (it doesn't mean you should wear just one color, it means you should choose different hues of the same color)
* low contrast is a key!
* Limit the number of colors to 3, or better 2
Remember, we want to keep attention on you, not anything else.
TIPS
1) Skin colors always look good on photos.
And when I say 'skin', I mean all skin colors on people of all colors -
from pale pinky-white to dark brown or black.
Beautiful concept, don't you think?
2) Good news is that light and washed-out colors can be combined in a more frivolous manner
and you don't have to limit yourself to 2-3 colors if you choose pastel colors!
3) Keep in mind that white, grey, black and beige are considered neutral colors,
which means that you don't have to take them into account if you are trying
to build your outfit around one or two statement colors.
4) Analyse the background! Choose colors that are already there!
No, you won't merge with it, don't worry.
Or use opposite colors if you know how to use the color wheel.
5) Small bright details on clothing are acceptable and neglectable if their share
is no more than 3-5% of the total surface of your cloth
6) Wear layers.
7) Patterns are not a complete NO. Just choose wisely.
Patterns can look nice if they are not too big, too bright or too high-contrast.
They should not stand out too much.
8) Reccomended fabrics: cotton, linen, knitwear, leather (not too much), muslin
9) Wear comfortable shoes or take a spare pair of shoes with you,
especially if it's an outdoor photoshoot and you are supposed
to walk through the fields, rocks or mud.
10) Coordinate your outfits if you choose cloths for the whole family.
Coordinate styles and colors. Light and warm colors look timeless.
They are my favourite.
11) You can break all the rules if you know the rules and if you have a very
specific idea for a photoshoot in your mind!
